Escape from Alcatraz … or Ghana … or Khayelitsha … or where you are

There were a number of films on the theme of escaping from Alcatraz. The prison was on an island away from the mainland and almost impossible to escape from. The well known Robben Island a few kilometers away from Cape Town is the African version of that. This is the place where Mr Nelson Mandela spent most of his live of incarceration. If you could escape from here you had to brave the cold water and the sharks. This is not a pleasant thought.

Many of us feel that we are locked up in our own prisons. I was born in hell and I am never going to escape from there. There are many reasons why this may appear as hell to you,. but there is a way out. If you can acquire different skills and more knowledge  your chance to become a different person and escaping from your prison whatever this may be is excellent.

Take the example of Nelson Mandela. While he was in prison he continued to study. He was a qualified attorney when he was transferred to Robben Island. During the 18 years (of the 27 years of his time in prison) at this prison he kept on studying. He studied Afrikaans and the Afrikaner. “Well, Nelson was very serious about his Afrikaans, and not just the language, but he was very serious about learning to understand the Afrikaner–his mind and how he thought” (quoted by Fikile Bam who served 10 years with Mr Mandela …http://library.thinkquest.org/TQ0312702/nelsonmandela.htm )

So what is stopping you? The first questions that you need to answer are the following: what is your dream(s)? What are your goals?

It may be to be financially free so that you could spend your time as you would like to spend it. Then you can get your gifts and passion work together for the benefit of the world …

But … let us come back to reality. If you feel that you are in a prison, I could help you to escape from that. I will teach you the discipline that you need to set up as part of your life to get to freedom. It will be up to you to do that.

I can help you to earn $1 000 per month of passive income after seven phases (for some people this may be seven months, for others it could be longer). If you can do this, then you could learn to earn $10 000 per month or more over time. It depends if you want to do it.

I am so devoted and I am so fat.

Not sure who is talking here?

Not sure who is talking here?

fat preacher bruce-bruce-1I see many devoted people when I visit different churches. They look like they are totally absorbed in the worship and with closed eyes or hands stretched out to heaven, they seem ready to leave this earth now for a different place or a better place. Some will shout for joy, others will twirl or dance. Some will shake with anticipation and excitement. This does not only stay with the service as such. When I talk to these people I pick up that they are truly committed to their relationship with Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit.

So they are devoted and they are fat. “How is that possible?”, someone would ask. There are many reasons for that and I am careful to venture an answer. I was about 28 to 30 kg overweight, so I should know. This was also a time where I would describe myself as ”devoted”. So I will not judge, but I want to explain a bit better.

You are fat because there are a number of things that you do not understand or do not accept. Let me point our five areas.

1.  Incorrect eating habits: eating too much or the wrong things (or eating too little)

2. Inadequate exercising: no or limited exercising

3. Dualistic thinking: You separate spiritual and non-spiritual in your thinking

4. Social skills: you do not how to say no in any social environment

5. Unresolved pain … past, present or future

All of this comes from our thinking and/or emotions.

Let me give you one example of incorrect eating habits:

Your body needs from 80 to 140 gram of protein per day. You go on a special salad diet. You detox wonderfully the first three days, but you only get in 20 grams of protein per day. You also lose weight in the three days. On day four you binge!. That is you eat almost anything in sight. You cannot belief that this has happened to you. It is almost like the alcoholic that started drinking again after three sober days. You feel bad and you think that you do not have the will power! The truth of the matter is that you do not have the protein.

Protein gives you will power. You need to know how much protein your body requires every day. Then you need to make sure that you get that protein every day. One portion of fish or chicken or meat could give your roughly 20 grams of protein. Four of these will be almost enough for a lady, but that will depend on a number of factors as well. If you eat 7 pieces of chicken that may be enough protein, but too many calories. The first thing that you need to learn is the number of grams of protein that you require every day.

I have found the following programme on the internet quite handy for that. (copy and paste this link if the link when you click on “programme”does not work http://www.ichange.com/coach/coachhansie ).

So you can be devoted and have will power. It is often just a physical thing and not a spiritual thing. Get your protein sorted out first. We can work on the rest of the list as soon as we know that it is not the protein.

So, get your protein sorted out first: STEP 1

Testing lifetick software

Hansie and Anita with Dolphins ... front cover of book

Hansie and Anita with Dolphins … front cover of book

If you are like me, you get excited about big goals. At one stage I wanted to raise R3m rand by running 160 kilometers and getting people to sponsor the run for every kilometer completed. I did not quite work out the details of the plan and in the end it did not materialise.

I have found this great software that I can use to help you reach some goals. You will find it at www.lifetick.com where you can test it for free. I have started working with the coaching module of this software where I can assist you to set some goals and to get tasks related to that goal.

So I am inviting you to test this with me for 21 working days for free. I am only working with a few volunteers at a time, so you may have to wait for your session. The beauty is that you can set any goal here. So if you are keen to do that, send me an email now here

It will take you about 15 minutes every day. You are going to set at least two goals and then start planning aroung this. If I did have this system and an accountability coach when I did set that big goal, the outcome might have been totally different.

I will guide you through the process.

As a gift and to thank you for your participation, I will send you a free copy of our book, Healthy, Wealthy and Happy.

Please let me know soonest and see to what extent this can make a difference to your life.

The wind blows R50 note to my feet!

Some of the informal houses in Khayelitsha

Some of the informal houses in Khayelitsha

Living in Khayelitsha!

If you do not know about this piece of land, Khayelitsha is about 20 kilometer from Cape Town and there are about 2 million people living there. Unemployment is high, alcohol abuse is high, housing is from shacks to good solid houses. Safety is a word that is not known here. This is the scrapyard of Cape Town. Capetonians tend to ignore it or avoid it.

Hansie and Anita made Khayelitsha their home for about two years. They lived in a house in the community in Site B for half of the week and the other half of the week in Bellville. Anita runs her career practise from there. It was a huge challenge. The first challenge is the language Xhosa.

It is not easy to learn to understand this and even more difficult to talk it. So it is tough if you want to talk to someone and you cannot quite express what you want to say.

A brief story to explain something of the need and the culture is the story of the R50 (about 5 U$ in June 2013). This is the story as told by Hansie.

I was attending a Herbalife training meeting in Mitchellsplain (about 10 km away from Khayelitsha). One of our team members gave me cash for Herbalife product and this I placed into my pocket without concentrating very well. Back at Khayelitsha I made a quick dash for the frontdoor of the house. It was dark and you are exposed to the criminal elements when it is dark. I grabbed the house key from my pocket (the same pocket where the money was), opened the house and rushed in. I was happy to be safe! I forgot about the money in my pocket.

The next morning I was on my way to a meeting early. I was at the front gate when a young man greeted me friendly. The gate was still locked and he asked me if I would be so kind as to hand him his R50 note. “Where is your note?”, I asked him. He pointed to a note a few meters away from me. I picked up the note and wanted to know how he managed to get the note there. he explained, “you know, I was walking minding my own business when the wind suddenly gushed and pulled the money out of my hand and before I could grab it, it blew over your wall and into your property.” His friend at his side nodded to confirm this freak accident of nature. I handed him the note still perplexed about the fact that the note was wet and it did not rain that morning.

I was driving tot he eraly morning meeting when I remembered about the cash of the previous night. I did find one of the notes in my pocket. A quick phone call home and Anita and Johan (our son) retrieved the rest of the notes. As I took out the keys from my pocket the previous evening the notes fell out. The dew of the night made all the notes wet.

I was angry because I allowed these two youngsters to trick me out of R50, but the whole episode was also very funny. I had to marvel at their technique and the way they were able to convince me in English that it was their money.

The story, however, is typical of what is happening in the community. If there is any money in sight, then it belongs to the person who has seen it. It could be church, NGO, political party, contractors and for that matter government. If there is a way to get to money people will find it. They will tell you the most believable stories to get to the money and they often succeed.

Money is like a drop of water falling on parched land. It just disappears if it hits the ground.

There are many more stories that I will share, but remember the R50 story!
